This camp is about creating media literacy, we will develop critical ways of looking at media. We will ask questions about the content we are watching like how it was made? What are these videos really saying to us? Young People Create Camp will develop young peoples abilities to contribute to the media they are taking in. We will also have some suggested outdoor activities after our sessions to engage in so they don’t become 100% cyborgs! WHAT DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE? An iPhone preferable or ipad and WIFI, basic arts and crafts supplies you can get at a pharmacy or online. Recycled materials like cardboard and good glue! Working with what we have will be part of our camp experiment. WHERE IS IT? In your home! You can sign up from anywhere that you are able to access reliable Wifi. I am based out of Providence, RI. I know parents and young people are looking for alternatives during this summer of social distancing. I am excited to collaborate with youth, honor their inherent creative and technical knowledge while deepening their interests and build media literacy skills. This will be a space for experimenting and exploration. ABOUT ME: ANDY (SHE/HER/THEY/THEM) I am artist, dancer, and community activist. I have worked as a Director of Youth Programming at an Arts non-profit for five years. I created social justice-based programs that provided free arts programming city-wide, in partnership with creative organizations and museums. I got my degree in art and film, with a satellite focus on critical race theory, at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. In 2017, I received a certification in Non-profit Management from the University of Washington. I am currently a Masters Student at Brown University in the Public Humanities program.
